Quote:The thing is, in the VMS the stars between the Sun and the Moon have labels.
That's a good question. These religious pictures about world creation indeed don't have labels and they don't need to have it. Their goal is to show how God created the sky, not list detailed stars like Aldebaran, Betelgeuse or Vega.
On the other hand the Losbuch picture we are talking about HAS labels for planets.
( by the way, is anybody able to read the scribblings around Jupiter? )
That is some lead, suggesting that Voynich star medalions were inspired by a Losbuch manuscript and not Book of Genesis manuscript.
And Vienna Cod. Ser. n. 2652 is really a close match because it has 2 such pictures just like Voynich.
The open question is, of course, if these labels are meaningful or not.
There is also something weird with them. Most of them are unique words but some short ones are very common, appearing in lot of contexts, much more than you would expect from some star name.
I even thought once that I have a crib - "veg" could by used for "Vega" star but also as a shortcut for "vegetatio" (plant growth), "vegetus" etc. But nope
