Register or Login to view. The first five quires of the book are written by an unknown scribe in a conservative Welsh style, while the remainder of the book was written by the famous Welsh poet Gutun Owain, who writes in a style that would have been more contemporary.

I am very curious to see evidence for this claim. Are you able to give your source for it being first conservative and then contemporary? You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. makes no mention of a change in style.

I'm not sure if there is a source online that uses those exact words, that was my characterization. In You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.page he is called "an older contemporary of Gutun"
EDIT: nablator beat me to this one.

The actual spelling shifts that occur are known (not just with respect to this book) .  For example in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.book, the author says: /ð/ is generally spelled d, although there are a number of examples of the later development with this sound being represented as dd.

This is one of the exact changes that occur, for example, the first scribe uses ymlad vs Gutun ymladd.

So older + older forms, i felt conservative vs contemporary was an accurate characterization but that was my own.

Also note: these are pure spelling changes, not underlying differences in the welsh used. So exactly stolfi's proposal.
