Personally I don't think they are better examples than things found in early 15th century works.
After looking at them for quite some time, I'm currently in the mind that they are a western mind drawing fantastical "eastern" vessels for holding spices and other valuable ingredients. I'm not sure why ivory vases would fit with the context of the pages they are on.
