I was thinking the "everything green" annotations were to distinguish between woody stems and herby stems mostly. So a note at the root might indicate a red-brown (woody) stem. But I haven't checked this in detail so could be wrong. A systematic check would only be partially informative, since many instructions written at the top of the page were clipped off.
