If it's a medicinal why the lack of accuracy?

Apparently flowers are highly important to medicinal remedies and play a vital role bioactive compounds. 

Not in the early 15th century. The logic why a certain medicament 'worked' had nothing to do with chemistry, and at best with 'experience' from the past.
