Salt was traded in forms such as discs, blocks, cones or chunks. The shape depended on the vessels in which the salt crystallised during the boiling process.
That was my first thought in relooking at it also. It could signify that all the surrounding items can be dried and ground into seasonings and/or preservatives. Most sodium chloride salt can be seen by eye to have this cubic structure, and the blue could have been used to indicate transparency or reflection, just as it would if it were an ice cube, but the ice cube seems far less likely to me. If it was actually meant to depict blue salt, then it would be higher in potassium and lower in sodium, but this is evidently quite rare in nature, but could denote the surrounding items to be good as green manure as well, ie fertilizer for growing other plants.
