As for the towers, one reason for assuming that the middle section could be towers is the illustration in the upper right corner (towers with swallowtail merlons and below). It is at least quite possible that this is a transferable motif when considering ROS as a whole. This view is supported by the fact that ROS can be seen on a single folio and not on individual pages. It is therefore reasonable to assume that it could be a map. Nothing unusual for this format. Of course, the hope of finding a 1:1 comprehensible Mappa Mundi is in vain. After all, we are dealing with the VMS here.
