There is a record in Slovenian sources that the great great grandfather of Rudolf II, Maximillian I, spoke well Slovenian language. He was being though how to speak Slovenian by Thomas of Cilli, also known as Thomas Prelogar, who was trusted secretary of Emeperor Frederick III, and tutor of his son Maximillian. It is also stated that Prelogar wrote a Slovenian grammar book and Slovenian dictionary, but both books, like many others were lost. Prelogar later became bishop of Constance.
