So how can you defend that 15th century "German" (whatever that means) is equivalent in any way to the modern day language used in Germany?
The evolution into modern High German was quite recent and Mid High German is still used for its poetic effect, or so I am told. So Aga's philosophising seems quite plausible to me. Of course, I am only an amateur and defer to experts in all this.
Well, it might just be me, but to me, Middle German is not super different from modern German. In fact, I find it simpler, easier to read, in some ways.
Even though I know French better than I know German, I can read Middle German more easily than I can read Middle French. Once you get used to the substitutions (p for b, a for e) and the other variances in spelling, it's different but not hugely so. It's not like a different language.
