Note for American participants: currently Europe is already in Standard Time (winter time) while the US is still in Daylight Saving Time (summer time). The time difference at the date of the conference will be one hour greater than it is right now.

This might also be handy to get better questions from the audience. I can't necessarily think of a good question after a presentation. On the other hand, if papers are released and discussed beforehand, it might lessen the impact of the actual conference, which is probably undesired.

Initially I was skeptical (who can review papers about Voynich imagery without letting some bias shine through?), but most of their comments made sense. They made us rewrite a lot - Cary and I had to work hard to rewrite almost our entire paper - but the result is that it got better. So from my own experience, I can assure you that the review process was taken very seriously. Of course, reviewers are human beings with human flaws, but this applies to any peer review process in any field.

With a range of subjects like this, I also don't understand why one would find it too one-sided. Claire Bowern will provide arguments both in favor and against "nonsense text". And one of the speakers is Claus Schmeh, who (if I recall correctly) favors Torsten's views on the text. The implication that only speakers of one 'school of thought' would be permitted is absurd.

My impression is that Torsten Timm is an able and respected researcher and I would guess he or an associate of his had a paper rejected which he feels was unfair. I haven't read the paper, so I can't comment on it, but it is unfortunate that he feels that way.
The programme looks promising.

Great to recognize our forum members on the list of speakers, congrats to you all whose papers have been accepted!

Nice to see Stefan Guzy on the list, I guess this basically waives the need to be a German speaker and attend that lecture of his in Berlin.

Need to say that I'm a bit concerned about the pre-recorded nature of the presentations, that may feel a bit mechanical. Nonetheless, will try to attend if nothing mingles in.

If I am correctly informed, the conference proceedings will be published open access - which is a big advantage.
Thanks also from me for publishing the program! It's an honor for me to be part of it. I am also interested in the timing of the publication of the papers. There is a difference whether I present something that (possibly) has already been read or not.

I have not send in a paper since I had already published my research results.

Actually I'm interested in Lisa Davis work but I doubt that this is a good subject for a scientific paper (see my post in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.).

In this context I would especially like to congratulate @tavie, who got a paper accepted as well. Looking forward to it!

I am also looking forward to Luke Lindemann's "Crux of the MATTR", which is a title I wish I had thought of myself  Smile
The 'language' guys are getting warmed up already. And bravo.
The investigation of VMs illustrations did not get equal attention.

There are a variety of historical illustrations to be seen.

Peer reviewed publishing about Voynich imagery doesn't happen a lot (I would say it doesn't happen, but I must surely be overlooking some past examples). One of the reasons is probably that writing about statistical properties of the the text allows for objective statements, while art history, by the very nature of the discipline, has an interpretative component.

Thanks, Koen!

Really excited and looking forward to seeing all the other presentations!
