Still working on this as Ophiuchus is huge. Quite an intriguing chart as is seems to be a 'bad' time of the year, as draco is in the center of the sky and the serpents are amok.  Wink Booties might need to be elongated, but without any Arabic names for Hercules, still working on it.
before i get every astronomer freaking out. Yes I know the stars in Bootes have the same name. That is how they are listed on the old Arabic chart.

disappointed that these were merged as they were 2 different star charts.
the second chart Ophiuchus/Asclepius were intertwined and the VM made reference to the breach of a promise, which dealt with immortality or the philosophers stone.

Here is the updated You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. star chart. I have purposely not wrote in Ophiuchus or Hercules as I am looking for the most ancient astronomy chart for the Ophiuchus constellation.  The Voynich in the upper paragraph tells us that his head was cut off, and actually astronomy agrees with this, and that the serpents were cut up as well to make seperate constellation.  Not a secure site  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. But the word play about the constellation, is eerily similar to the word play of the Voynich on this star chart and in the 9 rosette folio about.
If anyone is interested in the 3 charts done so far, here is the link You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. Working on the sunray one currently and one word i need to correct (type) should have read 'stare' not star on the paragraph for the fear this next chart. It speaks of Ophiuchus.

Thank you, since (at this time) Academia.edu is under maintenance it might take a while ... so i will post some stuff here:
67v1
Page 67v1 is perplexing in that it speaks of fornication, trust and eliminating the fetus. Based on the 9 rosette folio, it was used for scrying and necromancy. This page uses some very old Biblical terms for the *‘object of worship’ or the mistranslated term ‘mole’ which means to dig out, and also for the ‘Ancient of days’. I will leave it to you the reader to research for yourselves, as it can be maddening to know what secrets were really involved in making the Philosophers Stone. Some key words in the Voynich are Basket for Womb, hated one for fetus, branch for fetus, weaver to create,
Words surrounding the chart: (starting at 10 o’clock)
Network or Grid
To mutter silence
Silence of basket
Continuous / wharf silence dwell
Insolent prick / penis
To heal in this weariness
Dust (something that cannot be measured) of the fool
To lean oneself upon a large basket of unspecified measure
Oh! Lord, female to spend the night
A state of being also Nergal / lamp a Pagan God
To expose oneself perverseness
At that time, trust

Translation of the sun ray sentences: (start at the double ray joined)
Glorify perversion brother my own effect tragic
Vanity new growth to bow down ______ weaver in fair chains
This vomit fair form perversion to open *object of worship firepot.
Channel of wailing, obsessed with rules, to breach a promise… run
This to be opened, bow down shovel for the alter fire, bow down enter
Oh! Grandmother premature baby fertilize fair son give ear enter
This hated one to sweep unripe fruit, palm of hand for fear that to rise up
Ancient of days to curse, Alas! To be opened and oppressive stare  *GREEN STAR
Oppressive stare to rise up high place of worship shrine desire to test God
Famished imposing branch, How long he restores, listens? *GREEN STAR
Go away foolish without understanding
Alas! Would God pure gold, Lord to know fair relief of restraint  *GREEN STAR
Turn aside enclosure beautiful
Brother forgive me, lengthening of time relief
To be proper Lord of relief, fair Oh Lord God
To burst forth of fair vomiting, rebel Oh long life
Vomiting relief to remove insemination
I am still working on the stars and green stars attached to some sentences.

There are 24 labelled stars according to You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.

That's about equal to the list of 1st magnitude stars visible from the Northern Hemisphere.

I guess I am saying anything not on that list would need a good reason to be there.

I mean Epsilon Cygni for instance? Why?

Your original assignment of Sirius made some sense though.

In summary there are 53 labelled stars on 68r1 and 68r2. Thats also the number of stars in an islamic astrolabe from the year 1650:

Furthermore, as far a I can say Epsilon Cygni is indeed included in the VMS as "ockhy" (transcripted by me as "an-gan", originated from Arabic word: al-ganah, which means "wing") in 68r1. This chart seems to be a star map during the summer solstice, I will explain it later, when I reconstructed all stars on the map. Until now I´ve found 13 of 29.  Rolleyes

I do not have it all correct, but it is a start in trying to understand the language used, so thank you.
Now to answer Gavin's question:
This star chart had to be flipped in order to align with a current astronomy map of stars. Here is the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. of the stars. If you notice on the Voynich star chart there is a gap and i put Milky Way there. If all the stars on the left side of the Milky Way were moved up, then it is correct. The writer of the VMS was cramming as much into the chart as possible I would guess.  Please remember, the Arabic astronomy was translated into Latin in he 12th Century and many stars lont their meanings, names, positions, etc... You are not allowed to view links. Monica, I haven't had time to look at your updated star charts and probably can't for a while, but I was going to mention that flipping a star chart would not be out of character for a Middle Eastern viewpoint.

It was very common for Persian books of constellations to include mirror views (one from an inside, one from outside point of view). This is less common in western manuscripts.

Chart 68r1 was "normal" while chart 68r2 had to be flipped. These were difficult to do as i had to look at Arabic, Syrian and Persian names, as there are not a lot of Hebrew names known. So I phonetically sounded out the Voynich words which is why I switched (arrowed line on workup) the two Ayin sounding words to find their proper place. One spelted "ayang" the other "ahyan". Ayang is Al-Janah the wing of Cygnus, and Ahyan is Ayn for the eye of the bull in Taurus.
Cassiopeia translated to firepot + fetters or chains, but was known as the stained hand of Fatima. Made a leap of faith on that one. Wink
