When I see a dome of red terracotta tiles with white ribs, I think of Brunelleschi’s dome in Florence. However, I understand that this represents the biblical first city, founded by Cain, so it was likely freely imagined by the artist, even though they certainly drew inspiration from real, individual buildings (on the right, You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view., 1450 ca). The dome in Florence was built between 1420 and 1436, so maybe it's too late to have inspired the manuscript?

It discusses the Weltchronik which was the immediate predecessor to much of the Elsässische Legenda Aurea, Rosengarten zu Worms, Lucidarius which Lauber and the 1418 guys created..

Maybe, but there's the broader issue of art history vs. Voynich manuscript. Art historians avoid going on the record about it for very good reasons.
Before reaching out to scholars, I'd like to get a better idea of the swallowtail merlons in the Weltchronik tradition first. I've skimmed a dozen of them and they all have square merlons. Only two I know of have swallowtail merlons, and those are the two instances of swallowtail merlon images we know of that were presumably made north of the Alps. So I wonder if these two are related (they are both from the same area), and if that relation may be a stronger indication than the Weltchronik genre itself.

To find out the actual location of origin of these works (if it is known at all), it's necessary to consult the literature though. In the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view., I mentioned that the Kassel MS is actually believed to have bene produced in Northern Italy, possibly Venice. -

I saw Marco's post about the dome and recognized the similarity with this one, went looking for it, then found you both already knew that they were both from the same manuscript . So I thought i would repost both images here in case anyone else goes looking or would like to see them together.

Done that many times :-)
But what I meant is that these were quite independent places. Later, one became predominantly catholic and the other predominantly protestant, but I am not fully familiar with the historical details.
