That is a very good point.
The Voynich manuscript does have a habit of destroying the lives of many people who investigate it.
One could argue that it is necessary to decipher the manuscript, so that it cannot destroy any more lives. -

I don't think so, you learn a lot by studying the VMS, especially about the ( late ) Middle Ages. In my opinion, that's part of our hobby. -

Exactly similar thread I wanted to start, but a little differently.
Is there a sincere interest to reach to the bottom of the truth in deciphering MS408?
I think - no.
The researchers enjoy in development of thousands of fantasies, statistical and probability studies, linguistic theories, alphabetical researches, imagery fantasies, but they do not like to find the real truth. They do not want to end this dream, which occupies their whole life in some cases.
If someone (innocent, like me), however offers a solution- like the interpretation of 116v, which is the very truth - they ignore it.
Because if there is a solution- their researches die, the blog pages like this- die, the videos on Youtube- die, the grants (maybe if there are such) -die too. The interest to the VM dies.
They even cannot sell it properly. The whole industry dies!
Then the question is "Who is interested in the deciphering of the manuscript?"
There are thousands of other readable manuscripts, which nobody even opens to see what is there. This manuscript immediately turns into one of them.
Imagine its contents- herbs, some of which nobody knows, cosmology, which is already replaced with alfa, beta stars, pharmacy, which is big big today with whatever you desire...
So my final conclusion is that the script is not deciphered, because nobody has interest to decipher it.

I guess you can approach it in a healthy way (having fun, experimenting, learning) or not so healthy way (when it takes a toll on your health or your relationships, or negatively affects your life in other ways). On the other hand, I'd say it's not the worst of obsessions or addictions.
Personally I gained from toying with the MS much more than I lost. There have been some late nights and it did interfere with some other things in my life occasionally, but I learned a lot, and it comforted me through harder times. The MS is (most likely) 600 years old and has lived through many cataclysmic events in the history of humanity, this helps to put things in life in perspective somehow. -

It's perfectly normal, I think, for most people to ignore new VMS solutions by default. There have been too many already, and quite a few solutions have been even peer-reviewed and published, and yet in the end they didn't hold up to the scrutiny of experts. At the moment it will require extraordinary evidence to actually make people believe one's solution is right. -

It is exactly so- the people and researchers are fed with "solutions" which are not true.
But there is a second reason- there is no motivation in the researchers to find the real answer. If there was a prze- let us say 2 millions (like a normal scientific grant) you will find immediately the right team and people to find maybe not complete but some answers.
Hay, Mr. Elon Musk, where are you? Please, announce a scientific grant for solving the most mysterious manuscript! (10 millions Evro will be a fair prize) -

No need, surely AI will be able to solve it much cheaper in a few years. I won't be surprised if a task of this magnitude would take south of $5000 in 2028

I have called for such a thing before now. There has been announced a $1 million prize for the decipherment of Indus Valley script.

I don't have any constructive feedback (I don't really expect marginalia to be meaningful, I suppose it's most likely a mnemonic of sorts, and I certainly don't know Occitan). What is your opinion?
