Thanks @Mauro. About the horseshoe: yes, it’s a bit like ordering books by height. The arc is real, but it shows how the hands and sections differ, not the order the pages were written in. My text has no time order at all and still makes the arc.

LFD hands are stratified to specific points on the gradient. You are getting the horseshoe because you have split the gradient into 5 parts. Each scribe is only active for a certain part of the gradient / section. So your model is indeed receiving time.
