Here you go, its hard to really tell due to the number of P/F being fairly constrained. Total rise modestly with paragraph size.
Thanks for the plots!

On the first graph, it is hard to tell whether there is any difference between sections because all the dots are jumbled together (so the overall color depends on the order of plotting).

It may be that the slight increase in puff use is not due to parag size per se, but rather it varies by section, and the sections with more puffs per parag also tend to have longer parags (even if most puffs are still in the head lines).

In the second plot, it seems that the puff/glyph ratio on the head lines is largest for the Herbal-A sections and smallest for the Stars section.  Although it is hard to tell because the dots of HerbalB-3b, Stars-4c, and Bio-4a have colors that are easily confused. (The color channels in out vision have rather low spatial resolution, so the colors or small things get mixed with those of their surroundings.)

All the best, --stolfi

Yes,
  • Section differences don’t explain away the paragraph-size association. The estimated increase is 2.41 p/f occurrences per additional 100 words before adjustment and 2.52 within sections. The pattern varies by section/
  • Herbal A does not have the highest first-line rate. Herbal B–3b has 7.34 occurrences per 100 glyphs, compared with 4.46 for 1a, 5.76 for 1b, and 6.14 for transitional 1.5a.
  • The two Stars groups differ. Stars–4c is low at 3.40, while Stars–3c is 4.47, almost identical to Bio–4a’s 4.49. These include benched forms; plain-only comparisons are also provided.
