I'm sorry but there is the mandatory Elihu Vedder painting, that needs to be mentioned in connection with the modern forgery hypothesis:
Note that this seems to be the only instance of nymphs holding stars connected to their hands, in such a number, among all known artwork, ever.
Vedder also has intriguing connections to drawing castles with swallowtail merlons:
But again, this is only speculative. But interesting, to me, nonetheless.
