When Cary and I were looking at A vs B plants images, I realized just how much of a mess Q8 is. From my You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. about it:
Quote:The situation in both bifolios of Quire 8 can be summarized as follows, with red indicating A and blue indicating B. The image types “starred text” and “diagram” are marked blue (B) since in the manuscript as a whole they are typically done by B-scribes.
We see that almost every page of this quire has a mix of A and B indicators. Not a single row is completely red or blue.
- f57r: B-scribe 5 writes two different types of B-language on the same page and the accompanying image is strongly A.
- f57v: A-scribe 1 writes the text for a circular diagram. All other circular diagrams are done by B-scribes.
- f58r and f58v: B-scribe 3 writes starred-text pages but the language is A!
- f65r: the only plant page with hardly any text. B-scribe 3. Plant leans slightly A.
- f65v: B-scribe 3, plant leans A.
- f66r: a text-only page without stars is exceptional in the MS.
- f66v: B-scribe 5 writes B-text, the plant is strongly A.
It is good to be aware of these things when looking at page order.
