I am almost certain that m is an abbreviation for iin (and possibly other strings) that the Scribe was instructed to use when space was tight.  Mostly at or near the end of the line or an intruding figure.

The occurrences of m away from those tight spots may be places where the Scribe just was lazy of felt a vague imperative to save space (like the occurrences of abbreviations in other manuscripts).

Or those ms could be instances of m that were present in the Author's draft.  In the latter, the ms may have been at the end of draft lines, but the Scribe (as was and is the rule when copying parag text) ignored the line breaks of the draft and chose new line breaks on his own.

All the best, --stolfi
