The VM as Outsider Art

Definitely a point but I think you present a false dichotomy. There's a lot between incoherent babble of a madman and unsolvable riddle by a genius. I also disagree that attributing most oddities of the VM to an autism spectrum disorder would stop all research, on the contrary. It makes the VM even more fascinating. This does not automatically mean it's not containing any information, just that this information may be distorted, corrupted or at least presented in a form we might find very odd while it was meaningful for its creator.

I disagree.
We are talking about a broad spectrum and a fraction of this spectrum manifests in the tendency to sort and stack things in repetitive patterns and / or create highly detailed imaginary worlds. This probably has not changed over the course of human history. let alone since the moddle ages.

Whoever made the VM (number of people involved is another topic) was likely neither 'crazy' nor 'stupid'. But even highly fuctioning persons or savants frequently have issues that lead to very strange behavior and an unique way of expression. I still stand behind my hypothesis as parsimonious and I think it is falsifiable if we find a convincing way to make sense of the oddities I mentioned and they fit in a big picture. The alternative hypothesis of some 4D chess trickery by a group of geniuses so brilliant their masterpiece defies all cracking attempts or so ambiguous it can be anything is not really getting us anywhere etiher. In any case it looks like a lot of work, and despite the poor drawings probably even love went into the VM. I need to finally make a topic about the stacking patterns in plants when I find the time. But back to bulls now.
