I would advise caution with attempts like these. All we have is the pixels in the original image, which are already an approximation of 3D reality, taken under specific lighting conditions, variable flatness of the vellum etc. Doing further manipulations of these files will create and enlarge artifacts.

That's why I'm doing some tests to see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'm not going to continue.
