Text on the occiput and the right shoulder in Folio 86v? - Dobri - 15-01-2025

At least three symbols seem to be written on the back side of the head (occiput) and the right shoulder of a person in Folio 86v.
Has this been noticed and discussed before?

One could read it as 'sol' in a first approximation.

Here the text is enclosed in an orange rectangle for clarity.

Zoom out.

In addition to the text, note that the person is holding something in their left hand.

It's not obvious to me that it is text...

BTW, much higher resolution scans are available, there is no need to post pixel mush. Smile

It might be an accidental and partial continuation of the background pattern (which I assume was made after the figures were drawn).

The question mark in the title of the thread indicates that it is unclear if this is text or something else.

It could also be an attribute like a distinctive cap style.

Just download the required TIFF from Beinecke. (and guess what to include in your image Smile )

Left hand could be a root bag with plant.
Possible headband, maybe even a blindfold.
Possibly something woven into hair on right side  - because headband? seems to be beneath it.
Right hand possibly an orb  ( but could be coincidental background placement ).
Right hand index finger possibly a ring ( more likely a visual artifact ).
Right hand pinky finger possibly a vertical line  ( but  more likely just coincidental background placement ).
Position of figure : Facing away  - possible parallel with north and south figures in f57v.
Dress: Baggy sleeves , narrow cuffs.
Text: None.

I came to the realization that perhaps there is no text and the person is turning their head slightly to the right so that a part of the forehead, an eyebrow, the nose, and the right cheek are painted by the artist. The ear and the hair seem to be covered by a coif or another headwear but it is unclear what is painted over the temple.
