Words ain and dain - Ruby Novacna - 09-05-2022
The separate words ain and dain are not among the most frequent: less than a hundred for ain and two hundred for dain.
I propose to read them in Greek as ειν and τειν:
- ειν = εν - in;
- ειν - ου - where;
- ειν a (rare?) form of ειναι - inf. of ειμι - to be ;
- τειν - dative of singular pronoun συ - you, thou.
I don't know if statistics alone, without full or partial translation, can confirm or refute this reading.

If ain means ειν = εν - in, then the word after it should be a noun and not a verb?
How can we quickly list all the ain?

Well it depends on what you want, the word 'ain' on its own , words that contain 'ain', words that end with 'ain', the words that follow 'ain'.
Whatever, just go to voynich.nu get your preferred transliteration from this page -'Text Analysis - Transliteration of the Text' -- You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
e.g ZL transliteration file, V2a -- You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
Open it with Notepad++ and click >Search > Find.
Then type '.ain' into the 'Find what' box for all instances of the word 'ain' ( should get 74 hits, tick 'wrap around' and search mode 'Normal' and 'Find all in current document' )
You can do this in any good text editor.

I'm not used to working with text editors, Notepad++ must be a good editor, it outputs the search results, unfortunately, I can't adjust the display: despite the dark mode, the contrast is too low. Is there a trick to improve the display?

As I continued to learn declension in Ancient Greek little by little, I discovered that my way of reading EVA ain as ειν and dain as τειν is not the only one possible, the words αιν and ταιν should also be tested:

·[font=Times New Roman] [/font]ταιν - fem gen /dat dual of ο.

Reading the words orol.dain together, I get the word ορατην, either sg fem acc of ορατος - to be seen, visible or sg masc acc of ορατης - beholder, observer. In this case dain is read as την.
