RE: Is "porta8" on f116v a Latin abbreviated word? - denty - 28-07-2026 I put "alada bas translate german" into Google and that small translate box came up and I ended up with "just enough" (I wanted to take a photo of it but don't have the means at the moment) but I just tried it now and this time it said "just bas" and said to try Catalan, and the answer there was low wing. But then I reversed it and it said low wing in Catalan was ala baixa, which is actually downward wing. But then i reversed that and it was something else again so i guess this translate box doesn't work so well. Darn, too bad. "just enough" sounded useful! I played with it some more, this time it stayed the same in reverse with alada being Spanish for winged. Added bas and said low winged, but then the reverse of that was de ala baja, and the reverse of that was low-wing. maybe some difficulty with the 600 years that have passed? For all it's worth! Yes I just had such a good result, I believed in it for a moment, thanks for calling me out, came back to reality. It's the best way to find German medieval words; you can easily customize which dictionaries you want to use (left side), and you can now find a lot of results, including rare terms. But you have to be careful, because other languages are also included. Middle High German Middle Low German Early New High German That ist roughly the time of VMS |
