Word shuffled-lines (same words, different order) would test this hypothesis. Not exactly because we already know that there are positional preferences for glyphs in lines that can nudge a little the probability of a vertical alignment. If the word structure does not matter then it's the next thing to test and that's more difficult.

Yes, I’d already thought of checking that too, but I was just too tired yesterday. Here’s the revealing result:

So, strictly speaking, these graphs demonstrate once again – in a completely different way – just how highly structured the tokens in VMS are. Anyone who assumes a simply substituted natural language is refuted by this alone Wink

But whilst I was doing that, I noticed something else that’s far more interesting and which has to do with the effect. More on that later.

Here is the ‘solution’ that perfectly describes this striking pattern of column clustering.

The best way to illustrate the extremely high structural complexity of the tokens is to ask: Which and how many glyphs cover 40 per cent of a position within a token?

Here is the table for Voynich:
(as the labels are structured differently, I have only taken tokens from lines that are longer than two words)

   

Two glyphs are usually sufficient to cover 40 per cent of a position. In some cases, they even cover up to 65 per cent. Also of interest is the ‘e’ at position 3, which on its own accounts for just under 40 per cent. 

(In my view, this is incompatible with almost all the solution theories presented here, but I do not wish to name any in particular, and, of course, I’m not allowed to write which one fits perfectly here either... Big Grin )
