People forget that grapes were also grown this way, or that wild vines grow in nature.
I assume that certain trees provide protection from parasites such as aphids.
Wine is an ingredient in many recipes.
In fact, wild vines can grow into trees over many years.
I don't think it's Brussels sprouts. It's a cultivated variety. Cultivation has only just begun, and the mother plant looks different.

I don't think You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. is brussels sprouts either. But Wikipedia says that the variety has been cultivated in Europe at least since the 5th century.

It is very possible that it was inspired by an ivy growing on an oak.
Would be an ivy growing without any own leaves, image just shows "oak" leaves then...
