Hi Anton,
the statement seems OK to me and I cannot think of "essential" corrections. 

As a minor improvement, maybe we could still come up with something more specific than "images", specifying that the illustrations are drawings in dark ink in most cases painted with colors.
We could possibly make clear that the images are not produced by the impression technique that was used in some herbals starting from the XV century:

Marco: that looks interesting, perhaps it is better to start a new thread about how the images were made? Like that we can pass this statement already and give the "how" its due attention in a specific thread.

I believe that if everyone basically agrees that these portions of the MS are images (and not e.g. blots or something), then a separate statement (or several ones) can be devoted to specifying what kind of images are those (that would fit into the Images section, while this one is just introductory Generic).

For this generic statement we need just to pick a general word most fitting.
