Interesting similarity to “ t ,” but I think that's just a coincidence.

Tartarus was actually used frequently in early medicine. Tartar was commonly used in therapy, particularly as a mild laxative, to relieve edema, or to treat kidney stones. In combination with antimony as tartarus stibiatus (“emetic tartar”), the substance was also used as a strong emetic and expectorant for lung diseases.
