Lots of people on here are pretty chill, have spent a long time with the MS and read many works by others, however some (usually fleeting visitors) are.. not these things. Personally I ain't sitting through 30mins of why Tiktok is going to get taken over by swirls caused by the manuscripts aura, or how plants represent galaxy's discovered 2 weeks ago
There has to be a bit of management of these things for a number of reasons and it takes time
Maybe chalk it down to me being relatively new here, in my experience this problem quiets down in a few meetings, as long as you have some freeform time at the end of the meeting where everybody is invited to share whatever theory they want to share. These people want to be heard and just letting them speak for some time will diffuse that urge in the future. Let people spout their alien or jesus theories.
What kind of useful things could be done in such meetings?
news, discuss the new stuff that came in since the previous meetings, blogposts, new discoveries.
maybe a presentation if somebody volunteers
discuss collaboration stuff, looking for related manuscripts from the same time period, or the tower question that Koen asked in one of his videos,
for me as a beginner, some information about the software already out there.
discussing books.
Some casual chat if it is not too busy, if the voynich community shows that chill cooperative people rise to the top people will emulate their behaviour.
cons:
some moderation is probably needed, everywhere you get an audience of 50+ people some racist will find very attractive to start "triggering the libs"
if you have some moderation being allowed to share your theory will lend the weirdest rheories some kind of stamp of approval from the community, where the community may think otherwise
if it gets considered a timesink the real experts of the ninja forum will probably not want to attend, making it a "blind leading the blind" exercise.
Rome wasnt build in one day and even a little "community building" can go a long way. If we'd start with just the open forum social part and grow from there it would already add value in my opinion.
