Sorry if this is something that's been gone over previously, or just incorrect.
However the "an" of "[?].san" , looks like it was done in a different writing implement to my untrained eye
Might this help date some of the "retouching"? I might just be completely wrong, or its too little to make any conclusion on, but thought worth mentioning.

These are definitely caused by the wax on the Marci letter,
No issue about those stains on the cover, but the stain on You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. is another matter. It is part of a set of dozens of stains spanning a dozen pages, all apparently created by the same accident and someone's sloppy handling of it.
I wrote a You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. on those stains. Please let me know if you see any serious errors.
Executive summary: the stuff is probably ketchup. OK, OK, more generally, some sauce or stew. Please see the arguments at the end of the report.

PS. I used only the (visible light) images from the 2014 Beinecke scan. Maybe the multispectral images can reveal more information or suggest other interpretations.
