I would not suggest that your input... or Aga's, or Rene's, or anyone's... be relegated to the basement. Why would you wish that upon me, and my ideas?

Rich.

Your own thread does not count as the basement.

At comment #16 in this thread you injected your forgery theory into this thread.

You said "Of course this refers to the thread discussing my recent blog post, "I Do Listen to the Experts: Do you?", which elicited a large number of comments here at the Ninjas."

It didn't specifically refer to your thread it referred to a general discussion of which your thread was a small part. I didn't want this thread to be filled up with your theory. You have your own thread already.

But Mark, respectfully, my quote, and the post it is part of, is exactly on the topic of the use of expert opinion in mine, and all investigations. It is not at all off topic. Is your contention that any response I, alone, make, here on the Ninja's, should first be self-censored of any mention of forgery, or my theories?

Anyone could, and many did, chime in... just as I did... and explain how this interesting problem of expert opinion affects them. Are forgery ideas, alone, to be stricken from that record?

Rich.
@Mark
A bit unfortunate for me.
The translation for "Expert Opinion" means "Gutachten". Assessment of a matter.
Even when you buy a car, you get an expert opinion on whether the price is justified or not.
How should you even approach the subject?
The fact that this has become Rich's topic is probably because it covers a large field.
Otherwise we're talking about paintwork and rust.

You already have a current parallel thread dealing with specifically with your blog post about your theory. Your comments were not about expert opinion in general, but rather about your specific theory. It seems like this thread has been hijacked and redirected from its original purpose.

Ahmet Ardic is very careful to keep posts about his Turkic theory to his thread. He doesn't feel the need to take over other threads. Making comments in other threads are fine, but when they overrun a thread that is something else.

It has nothing to do with your perceived persecution surrounding your theory, but rather would apply to any theory.

These could be specialists in the history of astrology or the history of herbal manuscripts and other fields(I am open to suggestions).

Do consider the possibility that any specialist we list will also become a target for all theorists who see the list, each with a different theory and each more convinced than the last. So it might become a "list of people we'd like to turn away from Voynich research".

That would be the worst case scenario. However, experts do not have to deal with everything that is presented to them. I suspect that an expert will quickly recognize whether a question has been carefully worked out or not. Unfortunately, he/she could still be bothered by a flood of queries. One could only appeal to common sense and urge restraint.

And many specialists may never have been consulted about the Voynich manuscript. In fact they may know little or nothing about the manuscript.

When I consulted Professor Paul Harvey he was not familiar with the Voynich manuscript. In my experience specialists are often interested in being introduced to the Voynich and more than happy to provide their own thoughts.
