I think so too, the scans are sufficient. Maybe even a bit too good, since they give us a warped impression of the size of the MS.

One exception may be some of the foldouts. If I recall correctly, the scans of them are relatively poor. And Ray Clemens once said that they have become so fragile that additional digital preservation might be desirable.

There were some 600 dpi scans made of foldouts in 2014 (8 pages).
But, as Moonchild demonstrated, 10 dpi is optimal for analysis. Big Grin
Tongue  I agree the scans are too good quality! And It is true that it does warp the true size of the manuscript. I thought of all that too!
...When you need a high resolution image, you have to search for it but when you don't need it, you got plenty Haha!!

I'm not sure if I have these, are they available online? Or are they just the ones currently in the 2014 scans series?

The TIF files are the original files, with wrong names.
I made PNG files with heavily adjusted levels for easier reading (with correct folio name added).

What do you think of my idea that the star-like illustrations (as seen in the image you shared) are intended to represent souls?

Maybe.. here they are showing up as letters in this area which we can clearly see just a little faint on the original file of Folio 70r.
If they were souls, I don't know what the letters mean. Also if they were souls, the star would be too small to recognize who the soul on each star is.
It's possible.. Anything is possible with the VM.

The letters below: V X K E

I don't think they intended to identify any specific person. I think they were giving a description of the process.
