There are many suggestions for identification, I think it is time for us to look for the name of the plant in the text
If, as I suppose, shol.kaiin is the name of the plant, can the next word, daikam, which I read as tainar..., Ταιναρος/Ταιναριος, form part of the name?
I hope you do not expect an answer to your question.
You expect that I now search the text for the said words and that in EVA.
A position indication would be helpful, as an example in line no. xx.
I do it with picture. So that one does not have to search for a long time.

Sure, that needs a little more memory, but I can live with that.
This is line 19 of 8r, I had given the references in my first message.
OK, I'm only on 18 lines, but I think I know what you mean.
There is a repetition of two words.
I have no idea. But I think why should the name appear so late in the text ?
In her Master's Thesis at the University of Malta, Francesca Camilleri (I mistakenly attributed this work to her sister Adriana in my keynote, for which I apologize! Adriana's work was on OCR and the VMS) worked on identifying "crib candidates" in the manuscript, that is, words on a page that are likely to be associated with the images on that page. She did not study f. 8r in her proof-of-concept study, but it is possible that her methodology will be of use. I don't know if I am allowed to share her thesis here, but I will find out.

I admit that this may be a good argument.

Thank you very much, Lisa!
Since a name is something unique, so it should not occur too often in the book.

Try searching for the same word.

If there is encryption, there is an intention to conceal and potentially even mislead.  A good code-maker and user would realize that putting the names of plants where we would expect to find them (i.e. at the start) would risk them becoming cribs.

That said, this sort of mistake was made by many code-users over the centuries, so we can't assume the Voynich scribes would have been too sophisticated for such an error.  But hiding potential cribs would be an explanation for the plant names being where we wouldn't traditionally expect to see them.
Taenarus is a promontory of Laconia and city of the same name, with a temple of Poseidon, and near it a cavern, according to tradition, one of the entrances to the infernal regions and Ταιναριευς – native of Taenarus.
I tried to look for a possible relationship between Taenarus and the names of the plants, for the moment without much result.
