I still persist in seeking a solution by simple substitution. I know that the majority of Voynich followers do not share this kind of idea. However I would like to present some words beginning with pch which I read as ph or f.
1. pchdaiin (3) - fthaiin - φθαιην –of φθανω– come or do first
2. pchdair (4) – fthair – φθειρ – vermin
3. pchdeedy (1) - fthu89 - φθιτος, verb. adj. of φθιω –destroyed, dead
4. pchdy (11) - fth9 - φθῃ = εφθη –of φθανω – come or do first
5. pcheam (1) - phiar… - φιαρος - shining
6. pcholkchdy (1) - phanei89– Φανητος, gen. of Φανης
7. pcholkeedy (1) - phanu89 – Φανητος, gen. of Φανης
8. pcholky (2) - phan9 - Φανης
I do not know if such a proposal was made before me.
I have added one more word to my list of words with the combination pch, this time in the middle of the word: opchedaiin - ofi8aun - οφιτων, gen. pl. of οφιτης - like a serpent.

Could there be any reason for most of them to be exclusively the first words of paragraphs? I know pchdy does appear elsewhere and pchdeedy is in a circular text but ignoring the problem with the other vords that you list (and more generally, p and f gallows appearing mostly on first lines of paragraphs) does not inspire confidence.
I don't have an answer as to why the P and F glyphs appear on the first lines of paragraphs, nor why certain words are found at the beginning of a paragraph.
On the other hand, I don't want this kind of particular arrangement of certain glyphs to block us in our desire to understand the text.
In my opinion, the answer will come when we can read, for example, an entire paragraph on any page
If the glyphs k and t were lower than p and f I would have to say that the words with p and f are placed in the first line to save space. Unfortunately k and t are also high, but are on the other lines too.
I just learned from Deffner's book on the grammar of the Tsakonian dialect that ph Tsakonian sometimes replaces Greek σπ, μπ, μφ and π.
I'd have to revise my list of words containing pch EVA, especially the words I couldn't find in the Greek dictionary.
Here are some more words containing the You are not allowed to view links.

The good news - the majority of these words come from the word φως.
The bad news - the word φως has several meanings.
I have just added a post with about fifteen words beginning with You are not allowed to view links.

I think the point is not that individual glyphs can't be substitutes for plaintext characters: some may well be. But the whole solution itself cannot be down to simple substitution. Simple substitution cannot possibly explain all of the various odd behaviours of Voynichese, such as the the paragraph starting glyphs mentioned here, wider oddities around gallows' behaviour elsewhere, line starting characters, line end characters, excessive - in fact in parts obsessive - alliteration for certain glyphs, and most of all the entropy problem that Koen explained so well.
You can develop a theory with a core element of substitution that works alongside other mechanisms to explain these problems...but then it will no longer be a simple substitution theory.

In this thread I focus on the combination of pch and also cph, which by definition will not solve all the problems of the manuscript.
