That would depend on how narrow a transcription it was, wouldn't it? Seems like broad transcriptions make the text shorter, to me, at least in English, not that i have much experience with it. Given the time period we are talking about and the fact that this seems to be a unique glyph set (ie i don't think too many people did this at the time), my guess would be that it would be even more broad than what is considered broad today.

I am trying to figure out how broad it could be

Depending on your mother tongue though, if you were writing down what you hear in an unknown language, some entropy could disappear. For example, Dutch speakers would assimilate th-sounds with [d] and [t] in English, thereby removing some variation from the phoneme pool.

In Voynichese though, the lack of variation is in positional options. It is very predictable where a glyph can occur. This is a problem that needs to be addressed, but I fail to see how it can be fully explained by positing a spoken source.
@ Lisa
How can you read a book with sunglasses on ?

Here is a link to the documentary from 19. 1. 2020

Here is another Terra X documentary from Oct. 2018.

I am visually impaired and have to wear dark glasses at all times. As long as I have sufficient ambient light, I can see very well even with the glasses on.
Somehow I thought that to be a radio programme. Thx for the link. It's a pity subtitles are German-only.
@Anton: The film from Oct. 2018 does not contain anything new, only the reference to a possible artificial or universal language ( a priori type ) is perhaps worth mentioning. This assumption by Friedman is rarely enough noticed.
I have had the fortune (I thought) of being asked by the media to talk about the Voynich MS on multiple occasions. For the first 4-5 times this was exciting, but after that I began to realise that they would make anything of what had been recorded. They would just cut out very small things out of context.

On every single occasion I asked to review what they would publish, and on each of these occasion they said that they would let me, but this never ever happened. They did not even report back when or where the piece was published.

The very notable exception was the Austrian TV documentary, for which work started in 2007 and which was published in December 2009. This was a great collaborative activity from beginning to end.

I have refused interviews for years, but eventually accepted again when it seemed more serious. Not long ago, I was asked for a radio programme about the life of ELV. The organisation was quite cumbersome and took several iterations and the rental of a studio near where I work.

After that: complete silence from the producer. I don't even know if the programme ever aired.

My respect for programme makers has changed for the worse. Their aims are not what we regular people think they are.

The programme Terra-X that I saw last Sunday may be highly successful in Germany, but it was a grave disappointment for me, and I think for all who know more about the MS, and about the other interesting topics that were addressed. The only thing I can recommend them for is that they managed to talk to the right people.

They captured the words of Lisa Fagin Davis saying that "there are some people who like to see the work of Nostradamus in this" (approximately), and used it as the transition to the next segment.

They mentioned that Nostradamus knew Rudolf II to stress the relation....

This has happened to me also, on numerous occasions, in a field in which I have some expertise. They always promised I could review it before they published or broadcast and they NEVER do. In one instance, the reporter fabricated a whole paragraph and put quotes around it and published it in a major newspaper so it looked like something I said and it was so far from my views (and from reality) that it was professionally embarrassing.

After that I stopped giving interviews. I still do email interviews once in a while. I find these people report more accurately if they can just cut-and-paste, but I no longer do phone interviews or video interviews. Too many bad experiences with irresponsible "journalists" (and editors).
The documentary from ORF is really a good work. Very detailed.
In contrast, the one from Terra X is of course just a flyover.
But the Nostradamus story.
You work on the timeline for years, and then this.
It may not belong here, but it was also seen in Terra X.
The le Buse cryptogram.
It is probably the oldest known document of the cryptogram.
But even here Nick has already pulled out all the stops.
