Just for curiosity's sake... how does something like this  work out in terms of stats and quasi-phonosyntactic rigidity?  Imagine it not in ruled columns.

- and before anyone imagines it's an hypothesis or a smart-alec remark, please remember that I ask from fundamental ignorance of linguistics so deep that I haven't learned most of what you guys have forgotten you ever didn't know. Smile

Trig table. Almagest. Ptolemy's chords.

I don't see it as a smart-Alec remark. I've often wondered if some of the pages were calendrical pages (or something similar, like moon tables) minus the rigid vertical columns.

Okay, that makes sense of course, but earlier in the thread you posted tables like this one:

Note: At the end of a word an a is normally written as y. For this reason words like cheda (1) are rare for the VMS.

Can you make a table like that from words in your sample text?
-JKP-
Thanks for taking time to respond.  As a bystander in this sort of discussion, I'm constantly puzzled about why the statistics and observations treat only straight prose and standard forms of poetry. And I'm serious in asking what sort of stats would result if material of that sort (minus columns) was tested.  Iv'e noticed a number of links between the Vms' imagery and fourteenth century cartes marine - and works derived from them.

I didn't have a computer program to generate such a table. Therefore I had only the time to build three smaller tables:
