There are many many plants that have elliptical leaves and a basal whorl, tens of thousands of species that look like this.
If you look at the leaves of the VMS plant, you will notice they are parallel (plants like Plantago have parallel veins) and that the veins of comfrey are not.

To keep the forum messages organized, please do the following:
1) name your threads in a descriptive manner
"alum in latin mean plant comfrey" really does not tell us anything about what is the thread subject and why the fact that "alum" in Latin means "comfrey" is relevant to the Voynich text analysis
2) place your threads in appropriate subforums
For example, I cannot find any text analysis in this thread. If you want to suggest identification of the plant as comfrey, you should use the "Imagery" subforum.
