Since work has started using this cipher I have found 63 proper names within the VMS.

Just out of curiosity, why "Mercury / Venus / Jupiter / Mars" instead of "Mercury / Venus / Earth / Mars"?

Isn't Earth supposed to be the thing in the middle in this interpretation, if the sun is one of the signs around it?

Oh good point - the Europeans didn't know about heliocentricity (or the order of the planets) until after the VMS was created.

Yes, almost every medieval drawing of the solar system I've seen (I've looked at hundreds) has the earth in the middle and the sun revolving around it. I think I've only seen one or two that drew it otherwise (and those guys may have been burned at the stake).

Even if the persons creating these drawings didn't believe the earth was in the middle, they didn't dare express an opposing view because they could be branded as heretics.
