How to read marginalia on f28v? - ololololo - 04-07-2026

It seems strange to me that very little attention has been paid to this marginalia.

The first letter is n with an underscore. The second letter is similar to the red letters on You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. in shape, there is something similar on f68r2:

I have not found any information about reading this letter combination. Most likely, this is a color designation, but what kind of color is it?

My guess is that it is not writing but the stamens/pistils of the flower.

But it is weird either way...

As for that writing on f68r2, I read it as -sy.  Which seems to be a rare ending too.

All the best, --stolfi

I think the same way, but the glyph itself looks like it was written in one "go" (i.e., as if it should be written that way).
The inscriptions on the f68r2 (including the one I wrote about earlier) are more interesting by the fact that they can become an indirect confirmation that a scribe who did not understand what was written was really working on the book. The carelessness of these inscriptions may be due to the fact that the main thing for the scribe was to write an incomprehensible text and go do his things.

I think maybe it's a very deformed okairy, with the minim or r almost horizontal.

It's perfectly fine to not know that something was discussed before, and it's quite often hard to find things. It's just assuming that little attention has been paid to something related to the manuscript is usually wrong. Almost every piece and trace has been poured over many times. The only exception could be some details visible in the multispectral images, these have been only available for a couple of years, so sometimes something new is discovered there.

It's okay to make new threads about things that have been discussed a long time ago. But it's great when people link to earlier threads, after all that's where you can read more about the subject.

It's also a good idea to refresh or reinforce your knowledge, and I believe this also helps the community in some way Smile
