Where is the Giant Tif of Marci Recto? - proto57 - 12-05-2026

Hi: I was hoping someone had a copy of the gigantic 600ppi tif of the Marci Letter recto. I think it used to be here:

... but when you click on the download link for "Full Size Original (Tiff)", you it downloads the 1170955.tif, which is "only" 3470 x 4952, 96 dpi, and 4952 pixels. The full size .tif was actually a massive 6500 x 7908, 600 dpi.

The reason I know this is because I do have both these recto and verso larger tiffs, labeled 1170955-600ppi (recto), and 15754261-600ppi (verso), and I believe I did get it, years ago, from the above link, by clicking on "Full Size Original (Tiff)" button.

The reason I would like the original 600 ppi tif is because my old download is corrupted. Here is a small version of it to illustrate this:

Now as I remember, "back in the day" I had tried several time to download a good copy of this image from the Beinecke link, but they were all corrupted. I do not know if this was a problem with the image stored at Yale, or some gremlin in my own computer at the time. In either case, it seems that this is the only copy I have of the recto in 600, and wondered if anyone here happened to have, or know the location, of a un-corrupted 1170955-600ppi.tif ?

Thanks in advance... Rich

I was able to download them on my phone and with a free Tiff viewer they rendered fine

That is wonderful, DG... but do you mean the 6500 x 7908, 600 dpi tif file I am looking for, named, "1170955-600ppi.tif"? Or the smaller 1170955.tif which we can get today?

Sorry, maybe I misread your note. I meant only the one on the Yale website.

Yes... it is mysterious though... where did it go?? I was wondering if, at the time I downloaded the very large... "original size" version... if it was corrupted as I see and have it on my computer, and they just never replaced it. Or, if it was something I did in downloading it? Bad connection?

These images were apparently taken in March of 2016. They are 174 MP, uncompressed, and taken with some sort of special camera called an "IQ 180". The data on the file tells me I downloaded them only in 2021! That surprised me... I would have thought ten years ago, or more. But, half that.

Well I'm sure it still exists somewhere, maybe someone will happen to have a good copy. It is actually amazing in detail... what can be seen... and so it the back. Although both are only front lit, and Lisa's backlit photos of last fall show things even these giant tif's don't show.

Thanks Nablator.
But has anyone else been able to see these files at that location?
I have tried several times to create an account on "sendspace" in order to access them using multiple email addresses and it never sends a confirmation email to complete it.  (and not sent to 'spam' either.)

I think the files are gone now... perhaps Sendspace is for temporary sharing? In any case, and just in case, I've uploaded the Marci images to the public file folder at the Voynich Net, for anyone interested: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.

Is has been deleted already it seems.

Try this link (it has other 600 dpi scans of the Zodiac that are not available anymore on the Beinecke server):
