This paper argues that the persistent failure of cryptographic, linguistic, and statistical approaches stems from a shared foundational assumption: that the manuscript’s text was produced by a static system—whether a fixed cipher, a natural language grammar, or a stable encoding scheme. Analysis of the manuscript’s word network and vocabulary evolution reveals that this assumption is untenable. RE: The Challenge of Analyzing a Dynamic Text - foolo - 28-02-2026 Hey, this is a very interesting read. It seems to be able to explain a lot. I wonder what more testable implications this "self-citation hypothesis" gives rise to. In many places you refer to [13] by Timm and Schinner. Is that paper publicly available somewhere? RE: The Challenge of Analyzing a Dynamic Text - RobGea - 28-02-2026 I think the Timm & schinner paper is paywalled but the github is not.
