RE: Why the Voynich Zodiac - isn't - Anton - 22-10-2022 Continuing the subject of calendars, here are the two calendars (essentially it is one and the same calendar) featuring consistently 30-day months: the You are not allowed to view links. To compensate for the discrepancy between 30x12 = 360 and the 365, the additional "small" month is inserted in the end of the year. Hence, these calendars have 13 months in a year. However, the beginning of the year in the Coptic and Ethiopian calendars falls on the end of August of the Julian calendar. Thus, it does not look like the VMS charts were modeled after these calendars. However, this shows that the concept of months which are systematically 30-day is something established and not purely hypothetical. Scorpio includes a scorpion and a lizard. Capricorn: the left goat eats from a bush. Maybe the pairings in the VMS havent a special meaning. The reason to split the big animals may be for a lack of space, the "artist" wasnt skilled enough to paint 2 big animals in a small circle or considered the animals would be too small if both were painted in the same circle. RE: Why the Voynich Zodiac - isn't - davidjackson - 26-11-2022 That's from a Speculum Humanae Salvationis, mirror of human salvation. Imagery is often doubled up in representation of Christian typology, where the Old Testament foretold the New. That might be when the animals are sometimes of different types, ie, the crabs. You'll note the anthromorphised zodiacs aren't doubled up. RE: Why the Voynich Zodiac - isn't - Juan_Sali - 12-12-2022 (09-10-2022, 06:39 PM)Anton Wrote: You are not allowed to view links. An average of 13,5 per folio. Unfortunately there are 4 folios missing. If they have a similar content than the rest, 54 stars can be their estimaded content. Adding then to 310 it sums 364, very close to the days of a year. If there is a connection with the nymphs/stars of the zodiac they could indicate an entry per day. These missing folios make it more complicated! |
