"The (Hellenic) nymphs are presented with clear allusions to the wives and concubines of Solomon bathing in the Pools of Solomon in Jerusalem."

I do not agree with this. I think Antonio García Jiménez phrased the concept very well with his comment about "the personification of natural forces." I think the "nymphs" are a personification of a natural force.

"At the centre of the Voynich foldout map, I argue, we see the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem (Solomonic) with the onion domed buildings representing the candle-flame lit on Easter morn – Christ, the light of the world, is risen."

I'm not convinced that the foldout was intended to represent any place on Earth. I think it is more about God in the Heavens than about Earth.

For starters, there is a second cross on f75v, in the blue, on the right. Pairing is a confirmation in Deuteronomy and the VMs.

Then there are several examples of illustrations where potential religious influence has been investigated. When it comes to the evidence, it depends on how the symbols are interpreted. Violets, also known as 'Our Lady's Modesty' or 'Modestiae Mariae', were associated with the Annunciation. While costmay or the 'Herb of the Virgin' combined with the wings of Saint Michael (roots) could represent the Assumption of the Virgin.

VMs Virgo has been suggested as a potential combination of astrological Virgo with the Virgin Mary. Other potential interpretations suggest certain VMs illustrations include such concepts as the 'Arches of the Virgin' and the 'Wreath of the Virgin'. Mariology had a significant influence.

Other potential religious interpretations include "rho-chi" - the initials with little faces on top of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. - the historical Fieschi origins of the tradition of the ecclesiastical red galero on VMs White Aries, and the Agnus Dei on f80v.

The interpretation of these symbols is more often limited by what the readier knows of the relevant history of the early 1500s.
