Melusine does that - switch from her human form to her semi-human form every Saturday in her bath. Then she changes back to her fully human form for the rest of the week.  Her switching between forms is not some grand one-off. Melusine changes back and forth every week.

That's a good argument to connect the figure to Melusina, she's almost literally stepping out of her mermaid form. I also overlooked the fact that Melusina is married for most of the stories. This means her hair is appropriately done up, so she doesn't need the usual mermaids' seductress manes.

RE: Burma Shave - R. Sale - 25-06-2020

Yes, and in the end she flies away. Assumes her dragon form. Mermaids don't do that. Surely you've seen the variety of illustrations, as a dragon, or being caught in her bath. Sometimes she has wings, sometimes not. There really isn't a consistent representation. It's the setting (bathroom spy-guy) that confirms her identification in the illustration. But for a person living during the era of the Valois dukes, there was much more to it than that.

Although her form was not artistically standardized in appearance, the significance of her mythological presence might be characterized as something like a registered trade-mark in the medieval equivalent and used in a way similar to heraldry.

If the Melusine to Valois connection is accepted as a premise for further investigation, it is shown to be promulgated by Berry and validated by Burgundy. This is f79v.

Next is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. - the critter. Lots of discussion about it. Various proposals include the Golden Fleece. The Golden Fleece has a clear connection to Burgundy. The 1313 Apocalypse is a longer story, but it leads to the Burgundy library.

Then You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. - under investigation

And You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. - the double rainbow  - - potentially connected to the Sainte Hostie de Dijon. And Dijon is the capitol of Valois Burgundy at the time of this event.

Successively, three different items that present an increasingly defined focus on a particular time and location. Different people following different lines of investigation, produce results with good provenance. And when examined that providence can be seen as corresponding in both time and place.

Ahhhh... but is it a series in the VMs?... Is it an intentional sequence of images??? Or is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. a flop?

I'm imagining a situation not unlike the plot of a Dan Brown novel, where the Order of the Golden Fleece has a set of highly secretive Hermetic rituals, and the VMs turns out to be a copy of the very earliest encoded script to the ritual plays performed, that slipped into the wrong hands.

Wikipedia states that the OGF is one of the world's most exclusive clubs. I'm pretty sure I've heard them referenced in somebody's delusional rant about the New World Order on at least one occasion.

RE: Burma Shave - R. Sale - 25-06-2020

Right, but the question about the critter of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. is, what is it? Golden Fleece from several sources, pangolin or armadillo? For a time the ideas were just presented, and just sat there.

Then a second element was introduced, and that was the nebuly line, and the concept of what a nebuly line can represent. A neuly line is a cloud band is a cosmic boundary.

What type of animal would be associated with a cloud band or cosmic boundary? It would be an illustration of the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God. So, it's Lamb of God and Fleece of Burgundy, an obvious potential for cross-pollination.

An old book in the Burgundy library has an Agnus Dei image that mirrors the structure of the VMs image - or is it the other way round. (BNF Fr. 13096 f. 18)

The common structure has the cosmic boundary between the lamb and the 'droplets'. The cosmic boundary is a cloud band in the form of a vesica piscis, though much reduced in the VMs, the distinct angle in the lower part of the nebuly line in the VMs representation corresponds with the lower intersection of the vesica piscis. And the plain ink droplets are, of course, ambiguous, though they are properly placed.

This is not a situation where the artist has gone all out to make the best representation possible. There are red lips and cheeks all over the VMs; why not red droplets? This is an example of well-known traditions that have been pared down in an attempt to minimize the chance of casual / obvious discovery. Other examples are the cosmos and White Areis which is an obvious attempt at deception. The VMs artist is always altering appearance, using heraldic canting, depending on underlying structure and tradition. Everything from a code shift, to a play on words, to an optical illusion. Full of visual shenanigans, the actual fleece goes the proper direction. It's the head and tail ends that got switched. Everything passes through the lens of ambiguity, intended to obfuscate, but not obliterate its true identity. Besides which, the artistry is poor and the chosen references used in the VMs have been outside the scope of many earlier investigations.  Anything else?
