As for the drawing, I like Koen's idea that the head of the flower might be a stigmata/mandorla/devotional style image.

This plant differs from botanical reality not as much by its shape (there are no creatures in the roots or anything), but rather by its use of patterns.

In addition to what JKP mentioned, the leaves also use the standard VM cloud band pattern.

The outer pattern on the flower is often used for heavenly apparitions as well. When I google "God manuscript", these are among the first results:
