Grottos, domes, muqarnas... - -JKP- - 08-05-2019

The other thread on water sources reminded me that I searched for a couple of years to see if there were any muqarnas that might have inspired the drawing on f86v4 , the one with the people poking out of the stone-like textures. I never found any that came really close, but in this one, the "knobs" near the outer edge could perhaps inspire the idea of human figures within textures to someone with an imaginative mind:

I agree with you JKP. For the historians of islamic art, the muqarnas have a symbolic meaning and are not just a construction or decoration technique. They represent the celestial vault and I think it's a good parallel with the imagery of the VMS.
  You can make your own opinion by watching, for example, the Muquarnas Domes Hall of the Abencerrajes and Muqarnas Dome Hall of Two Sisters, from La Alhambra palace, Granada (Spain).
