My thoughts go to his family.

I am very sorry to hear it.

He did mention, on the forum, that he had been having some health problems but it's very sad that it turned out to be something serious.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Thank you for letting us know, Rene.
I will miss Stephen.

Dismal news. He was the man who introduced the Voynich manuscript to many of us.

My impression of Stephen was that of an amiable man. He was always willing to answer newcomers' questions, and his professional linguistic approach and enthusiasm introduced many people (like myself) to the manuscript. After David and I had completed the interview with Stephen, we were both surprised that it had taken one and a half hour. The captivating way Stephen spoke about his work and the manuscript made it feel like no time had passed. He will be missed.

Stephen was a lovely and engaging man. I was only chatting to him a few weeks ago in Burgos at the Voynich event, and he seemed very chipper. This has certainly come as a shock. My thoughts to his family.

I hate to bring this up here, but it doesn't seem like it needs a whole thread either, so I'll just briefly mention that websites can sometimes disappear without notice. If there's something you have on Stephen's site that you would like to keep online, it might be wise to download and re-upload in whatever way you think appropriate.

Way ahead of you JKP - I snaffled a copy earlier. If it does go down, I can always mirror it here off the forum.

Make sure you ask the writers (I'm sure you know to do this), as not everyone necessarily wants it republished elsewhere (or may choose another place to republish).
