Gordon Rugg weighed in on Gibbs' solution a while ago. Though the article is mostly about his views on Voynich research in general.

Thank you Koen, very insightful. A serious researcher can turn also a very poor article into something useful. Sadly, what Rugg writes also applies to much of the discussions on this forum. Emotions should be discussed face to face, not on the internet.

Quote:Why does the media keep publishing Voynich Manuscript stories that don’t last a week before being debunked? There are various reasons, and I’ll focus on one of them here. It’s the distinction between expressive behavior and instrumental behavior. Expressive behavior shows other people how you feel. Instrumental behavior is about the job done.
...
Increasingly, though, the new enthusiasts treated the manuscript primarily as an expressive activity (Hey, look at me, I’m working on this really cool thing!). At best, this led to re-inventing the wheel. At worst, it led to the sort of petty squabbles and name-calling that are depressingly familiar in online comments sections.
...
In terms of expressive behavior, the online world is a great leveler. ,,, The medium favors the quick, expressive jab over the slow, unexciting, instrumental answer. Conducting a debate over complex practical problems via clickbait sound bites is not a recipe for good solutions.

I sincerely hope to read more unexciting stuff in the future.
