not saying they are krill, but just for instance...

Hi, Linda, I actually think krill is an interesting idea, but I'm reluctant to identify the VMS crayfish as krill because krill don't have claws or flared tails (the tails are feather and narrow), and they tend to curl like shrimp and have the legs underneath.

Thanks JKP, I agree, not the best fit, but it does show that legs coming from the tail of a crustacean species is possible, and perhaps they combined knowledge of seeing similar critters with the memory of crayfish/lobster drawings for cancer? Regardless, congrats on being cited Smile

Linda, haha, I just edited my message and then noticed afterward that you had responded. I need to get the wording right the first time so I don't have to edit and yes, I agree with you, you found something that had the potential to explain the strange placement of the legs.

That was a good spot by JKP on the legs. Wouldn't have occurred to me in a million years!

Just to join in the crustacean fun, shrimp have legs coming out of the abdomen and also have long antenna out the front, like the Voynich.
Of course, they don't have pincers but maxilliopods and pereopods*..... But maybe the scribe was used to eating shrimp and was simply inspired by subliminal memories of the little chaps. And didn't notice prawns have 8 pairs but crayfish only 5.

* Yes I looked those terms up Big Grin
