Thanks Torsten, although I see there are other potential patterns with [otaiin], it's interesting that it's only on this page.

I'm struggling with ideas for what it might be. I fear that it is a good observation but will yield little insight.

It's possible to make similar observations for other words. See for instance the use of 'qokain' and 'otedy' in line f116r.P.7, f116r.P.8 and f116r.P.9 (see You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.)

It's is well known that it is possible to describe features typical for a certain position within a line of the VMS.
See for instance Currier 1976 (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.) or Vogt 2012 (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.). 
Therefore observations like yours describe an important feature of the VMS.
