There are also 7 occurrences with another type of a similar benched 'diacritical' symbol (highlighted in green in the attached image).

Somehow it seems strange to me that the changing of a diacritical marking is going to alter the meaning of the vord itself. Diacritical markings only modify the relevant letter, but they do not change it to a different letter. Are there any examples in relevant languages where this situation of 'macron duality' exists? Is there a real difference between the markings, or is it just a case of multiple scribes and not the neatest examples of handwriting? Is there a VMs version of 'moon' without any macron?
Are diacritical marks used for vowels, or for consonants? It may depend on the reference language.

What if the artist of the cypher manuscript depicted 11 "eyes" per layer after observing a real peacock?

The rhombic "diamond" shape ◇ of 4 "eyes" in 3 adjacent layers is also realistically depicted in said image.

What if in the entire cipher manuscript the images having layered bumps (for instance, some of the images with bathing nymphs) which form rhombic "diamond" shape ◇ of 4 bumps in every 3 adjacent layers actually depict the tops of peacock feathers?
Food for thought: Are there examples of bathhouses in the early 15th century with tops of peacock feathers as ornaments?

What if the short linear features occurring in between and on top of the adjacent bumps in the cipher manuscript are an artistic depiction of the elongated endpoints of peacock feathers?
Note that the bumps in the first layer often have a black dot in the middle that could possibly depict "eyes" in the peacock feathers.
